Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg placed only seventh in the German Sportsman of the Year award, which is voted on by German sports’ journalists.

Rosberg claimed 11 pole positions and five victories in 2014 to take the fight for the title against Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton down to the final round of the year in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton prevailed, but Rosberg nonetheless recorded his best position in the Championship standings with second.

Rosberg received 748 votes in the poll, while discus thrower and favourite Robert Harting, who won, polled 2100.

Combined skier Eric Frenzel took second with luger and Olympic Champion Felix Loch third with 2555 and 1467 votes respectively.
