Nico Rosberg: pressure is on Hamilton

Nico Rosberg says the pressure is on Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton as they prepare for another head-to-head battle.

Hamilton took six victories from the final seven races to beat Rosberg to last year’s title, adding to the crown he achieved with McLaren in 2008.

One more title would bring Hamilton level with the legendary Ayrton Senna, whom he has idolised throughout his motor racing career.

“Lewis has momentum from the title, so for sure that’s given him confidence, but there are also downsides,” Rosberg said during an interview with the BBC.

“It’s a big pressure because he can only lose the title now. He’s building the reputation of becoming one of the best ever in the sport, and he can also lose that.

“There’s a lot to lose for him at the moment with all that he’s built up, so that can also be a big burden.

“It remains to be seen. From my point of view I’m highly motivated, looking forward to the season and glad that it looks like there’s another opportunity for me, another shot at the title.

“It’s going to be a great battle again with Lewis, he’s an awesome driver.”

Rosberg hopes that changes he has made over the winter will boost his challenge in 2015.

“I’ve become more efficient in my preparation, doing less useless stuff,” Rosberg went on to explain.

“Sometimes I used to overtrain, doing triathlon and all these things, so it’s just more specific for the driving.”
