Nico Rosberg declared himself happy with Mercedes’ pre-season preparations, after topping the combined times at the final test.

Rosberg finished only seventh on the last day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, having focused on aero and set-up work.

But his best time on the Soft tyre earlier in the week remained the benchmark, despite Super Soft efforts from a selection of rivals.

“I’m pleased with the winter. We’ve done a good job with the development of the car,” said Rosberg, who completed 148 laps on the final day.

“That’s not to say that others aren’t also quick, but I’m optimistic for the first couple of races because we have a good car.

“I’ve been comfortable, and been quick, setting the best time of the whole winter test here in Barcelona two days ago. Things are going in the right direction.”

Rosberg said the warm weather on Sunday made for ideal testing conditions, but also highlighted potential issues with Pirelli’s Soft tyre, which is set to be used in Australia.

“Today was an amazing day for testing because the conditions were so constant out there,” Rosberg added.

“It’s been the warmest day, so today was really, really good. We just kept the fuel the same all the time, and just did some set-up work and things like that.

“I did a Soft long run at the end, because in Melbourne we’ll have the Soft tyre, and it’s going to be very problematic. It really comes apart quickly.
