Nico Rosberg not yet turning attentions to 2016

Nico Rosberg says he isn’t treating his return to success in the Mexican Grand Prix as a first step on the way to a challenge for the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship, insisting he is focusing on the final races individually.

The German secured his first F1 win since June’s Austrian Grand Prix with a dominant lights-to-flag victory over Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton in Mexico City, his success proving a convincing response to his United States GP disappointment when a late mistake cost him the win and the title.

His only win from four consecutive pole positions, though his efforts were seen as a redeeming performance to perhaps spur a renewed 2016 challenge, Rosberg insists next year is not on his mind for the time being.

“I don’t think about it that way,” he said. “I think about the races. There is no aim to win the championship or get one back on Lewis, it was just go out there and win. That is the same for the next two, I am not thinking about 2016 yet.

“Of course there are bits and pieces you need to plan ahead and count for next year but nothing major. I managed to put the past away and move forward.”

The win, his fourth of the 2015 season, sees Rosberg leapfrog Vettel for second in the overall standings. He leads his countryman by 21 points with two races remaining.
