Nico Rosberg: I just aquaplaned…

Nico Rosberg says ‘rivers across the track’ caused him to spin into the barriers during third free practice for the United States Grand Prix.

With several drivers suffering spins and off-track moments during a sodden FP3 session, only Rosberg would slide into the gravel and the barriers, damaging his front-wing.

Recovering to get back on track and set the ninth fastest time in a session that could yet determine the grid should the already postponed qualifying session not go ahead as planned on Sunday morning, the German was frustrated to lose out.

“There were just rivers and I got some aquaplaning and off I went, so that was not good.

“You don’t see anything from inside the car,” he replied when asked about whether he was aware he damaged the car. “I don’t know exactly what is going on, and what state the front wing is in, and it is our procedure to make sure that the feedback comes straightaway.

“If they start to expect that I know something, that is when things will go wrong. So just get the information out there even if it might look stupid in some cases.”
